Childhood and teenage years

In 1159, Lyraa Sparrow was born on the 9th day of the Horsebow Moon in the small lakeside town of Danu, high in the Oghma Mountains within the Adrestian Empire. Her parents, Vega and Delphinius, were powerful mages in Eridanus- ****a secretive coven that specialized in rare water-based magic. The coven maintained Danu’s incredibly clean and abundant water supply, though they were selective about sharing it. Only one member, Aquila, could grant others the ability to use this magic.

As a result of the clear water, Danus environment thrived with abundant plants and wildlife. However, it wasn’t wealthy. The town’s mayor, Deneb, often argued with Eridanus because he wanted to trade water with the wider Empire, while the coven preferred to keep the water to themselves.

Lyraa grew up in the coven and was granted the ability to use water magic at a young age. She helped her parents provide water to the town and developed a deep love for nature, especially animals. She spent most of her time alone in the forest, playing, drawing, and caring for creatures. She rarely socialized with other children and showed unusual behaviours, but her parents saw it as harmless.

As she got older, her quirks became more noticeable. She became fixated on stars, insects, drawing, and cats. She collected bugs, struggled with food, and was sensitive to her surroundings. While the coven accepted her, the townspeople found her strange. She had trouble recognizing faces and remembering names, which led to frustration and eventually bullying. Over time, she withdrew from others.

Just before her 11th birthday, a massive drought, known as the Great Drought of ’69, hit the Empire. Danu was the only place with abundant water, drawing attention from all over Adrestia. An official named Ludwig von Aegir arrived to negotiate access to the water. His visit caused increased conflict between Deneb and Eridanus, as members argued over whether to share their resources and whether to charge for them.

During this time, Lyraa met nobles for the first time and was treated poorly by most of them. However, one boy stood out. One particularly hot day, Lyraa fainted from the heat. The noble boy carried her home and cared for her. Before leaving, he gave her his personal hand fan, an act her parents never forgot.

As a result of the kind noble boy’s aid, Aquila felt indebted to Ludwig, and Eridanus agreed to a temporary deal: they would prepare barrels of water for Deneb and Ludwig to distribute across Adrestia. After the drought ended, the agreement stopped, and although many people came to Danu hoping to trade, Aquila refused to help any outsiders. The already tense relationship between the townspeople and Eridanus grew even more strained.

As more visitors arrived, Lyraa became interested in learning new kinds of magic. However, Eridanus refused to teach her beyond what she already knew. Frustrated by the covens constant arguments and secrecy, she became disillusioned with them. She also grew critical of nobility, wealth and greed, seeing how the visiting nobles harmed the environment.

One day, while venting in the forest, Lyraa met a man named Cy, who claimed to be a monk from Garreg Mach. He listened to her and encouraged her to pursue more magical education there, though the tuition was high. Inspired, Lyraa decided to save money to attend.

She began working at a honey farm, which surprised her parents. Over three years, she became skilled at caring for bees and developed a love for honey and its healing uses, though she struggled with plants at first. The farm owners, Cephei and Vul, grew fond of her.

During this time, Lyraa regularly met with Cy in secrecy and they grew close. A romantic relationship developed between them. Cy often asked about Eridanus’ secrets, and although she was cautious at first, she eventually admitted she didn’t understand her own magic, only that she could use it. She also shared the hidden location of the covens sacred underground shrine after being prompted by Cy.

After years of work, Lyraa finally saved enough money and applied to Garreg Mach. Eager, she went to share the news with Cy but he never showed up. Despite this, she chose to move forward with her plans and decided she would tell him when she arrived at the monastery.

Concerned about Lyraas difficulty in making friends, Vega and Delphinius gifted her a small black kitten, which Lyraa promptly named Fenris. Packing her bags with jars of honey and other essentials, Lyraa set off to Garreg Mach.

Academy Phase

In 1180, Lyraa’s start at the academy was far from easy. Her first month was turbulent, and she quickly became aware of the academy’s strong military focus. To make matters worse, she couldn’t find Cy anywhere and no one she asked had even heard of him. She began to question why she had enrolled at all.

Assigned to the Black Eagles, Lyraa initially struggled to socialise. Ferdinand was particularly eager to befriend her, and it didn’t take long for her to realise why. The noble boy who had once saved her during the Great Drought of ’69 was none other than him. Despite this, Lyraa’s past experiences with nobility left a bitter taste in her mouth, and she misread Ferdinand’s kindness as insincere. She kept her distance from the other nobles as well, though she found some common ground with Linhardt and Bernadetta.

Before Byleth’s arrival, Lyraa strongly considered leaving the academy, but she was persuaded to stay. When she confided in Byleth that she did not wish to harm others, she was assigned as Ferdinand’s adjutant and personal healer. Through this role, Lyraa gradually grew to tolerate him, even beginning to show concern when he was injured. Over time, she also became more open with her classmates, especially Linhardt and Bernadetta, though Hubert unsettled her with his use of dark magic both fascinated and frightened her.

Though she chose to remain, Lyraa never hid her discomfort with killing, openly expressing her disapproval during missions involving Kostas, Lonato, and their followers. Lyraa often sought out a quiet forest where she had discovered rare flowers in bloom. Ferdinand would occasionally find her there during her free time. She came to call it the Silver Cap Forest. When the Holy Mausoleum was raided, she was forced into direct danger after Ferdinand overestimated himself and engaged the Dark Knight.

As the months passed, Lyraa slowly warmed to her classmates. When Lysithea transferred into the Black Eagles, Lyraa began to seriously pursue her studies in dark magic. Yet her anxiety over Cy’s disappearance continued to grow, and when Flayn went missing, she withdrew emotionally, isolating herself and even keeping her birthday to herself.

She still aided in the search for Flayn, and when they finally found her, they once again faced the Death Knight. Unable to defeat him, Lyraa and Ferdinand instead focused on eliminating his subordinates. Lyraa confided in Ferdinand about Cy- her fears, his disappearance, and the strange fact that no one in the monastery seemed to know him. Encouraged by Ferdinand, she brought the matter to Seteth, only to learn that no monk by that name had ever been at the academy.

The revelation left Lyraa shaken. Hurt and confused, she withdrew further, convinced that Cy had lied to her. Doubts began to poison her other relationships as well, and she questioned whether her new friends were using her. It took reassurance from Byleth, Ferdinand, Bernadetta, Linhardt, and Lysithea to steady her, though she remained wary, particularly of Monica, who had been found alongside Flayn. Ferdinand promised to use his connections to investigate Cy further.

During the Battle of the Eagle and Lion, Lyraa played a key role in securing victory for the Black Eagles and later joined in the celebrations. However, the tragedy at Remire Village and the revelation of Tomas’s true identity only deepened her fears of betrayal. She confided in Ferdinand and Byleth about the fraught history between Danu and Eridanus, fearing a similar fate for her homeland due to its proximity to Remire.

Reluctantly attending the ball during the Ethereal Moon Lyraa met the Ashen Wolves, who had been permitted to join the festivities. She found Balthus amusing and charming, much to Ferdinand’s visible jealousy. Later, at the Goddess Tower, Ferdinand admitted his feelings, confessing both his jealousy and his wish to have danced with her. They shared a private dance, during which Ferdinand revealed his father’s corruption, and that he had uncovered new information about Cy. His real name was Cygnus, and he was related to Deneb.

This revelation shocked Lyraa, especially when she realised she had told Cy the location of the coven. They resolved to return to Danu, but their plans were interrupted when they were summoned to the Abandoned Chapel alongside their classmates, Byleth, and Jeralt.

Jeralt’s murder at Monica’s hands devastated Lyraa. She blamed herself for ignoring her instincts and struggled to support Byleth in the aftermath, withdrawing once more. Ferdinand reassured her, promising that he would always protect her.

They took the downtime to visit Danu, where Lyraa came face to face with Cygnus. He cruelly informed her that he was using her to gain information on Eridanus but eventually gave up after she revealed she didn’t know how the magic was granted. She gave this information to Aquila who admitted he already knew Deneb was trying to secure information on the water magic, but had not known Lyraa had come into danger. Aquila doubled down on his secrets.

When Edelgard learned of Kronya’s location, the Black Eagles joined Byleth in seeking revenge. Lyraa was shaken by the forced sacrifice of Kronya and Byleth’s sudden transformed appearance. Solon was defeated but the experience left a mark on Lyraa’s mental health.

During the Goddesses revelation in the Holy Tomb, Edelgard’s betrayal pushed Lyraa to her breaking point. Though she fought alongside her classmates to repel the intruders, she broke down afterwards, confessing that she could not endure another betrayal. All the hardships she had faced over the last year resulted in her turning to dark magic and attempting to concoct her own spell.

During the Imperial army’s invasion of Garreg Mach, Lyraa fought to defend the monastery. She watched in horror as Byleth fell into a ravine and the Dark Knight defeated Ferdinand. Desperate, she attempted to strike him with dark magic but the spell backfired, leaving her severely injured. Barely escaping with her life, Lyraa fled the battlefield with Fenris and returned to Danu, gravely wounded.

War Phase

In 1181, Lyraa spent a year recovering from her wounds, but the damage was lasting. Nerve pain lingered in her arm, and a stark white streak now cut through her hair where pigment would never return. Stripped of her strength and purpose, she sank into a deep depression.

She did not see Cygnus again until a year later, when he infiltrated the Eridanus coven’s base. He broke into a hidden chamber, one even secret to Lyraa, and stole the Staff of Rán before vanishing without a trace. Meanwhile, tensions between Aquila and Deneb only worsened. Deneb turned more of the townspeople against the Eridanus, forcing the coven to abandon their sacred home and relocate for safety. Burdened by guilt, Lyraa forced herself back into action. Learning to live with her pain and anxiety, she prepared a backpack and Fenris, and set out across Adrestia in search of Cygnus.

Over the following years, Lyraa traveled tirelessly, Fenris loyaly at her side. She sought both Cygnus and a cure for her condition, but the war had left most places depleted. Time and again, she was turned away, yet she still offered what help she could, often providing clean water to struggling communities. She abandoned her use of dark magic, turning instead to focus on light magic.

Despite the hardship, Lyraa began to change. She grew lighter, more open, allowing herself moments of happiness as she accepted the parts of herself she once rejected. She noticed others seemed more at ease around her this way, though she sometimes felt like an imposter in her own skin. In time, she embraced that version of herself, becoming more social and less concerned with the judgments of others.

In 1185, while fleeing a group of bandits, Lyraa found herself back at Garreg Mach. Drawn by curiosity and seeking a place to hide, she entered the gates only to discover that it was not as abandoned as she once thought. Byleth was alive. So too were Bernadetta, Linhardt, Dorothea, Flayn, and Seteth. Together, they drove off the bandits. Something in Lyraa stirred. She chose to stay, offering her skills as a healer and defender to aid Byleth and the Resistance Army.

Learning that Ferdinand, Caspar, Lysithea, and Petra had sided with Edelgard weighed heavily on her, Ferdinand most of all, but she refused to dwell on it. Instead, she threw herself into her work, healing and defending on the front lines. When she returned to the Silver Cap Forest for the first time in years, she was surprised to find it carefully maintained, as if someone had been tending to it in her absence.

As the Resistance army gained momentum, they claimed victory after victory, defeating enemies such as Randolph and Gwendal. Though Lyraa had made peace with the necessity of killing, she had never lost her distaste for it.

However, Lyraa was shaken when it came to take the Great Bridge of Myrddin. There, she came face to face with Ferdinand and Lysithea. The moment he saw her, Ferdinand surrendered without hesitation, refusing to raise a hand against her. Believing she had died during the fall of Garreg Mach five years earlier, he was overcome with relief and instantly defected. After the battle and defeat of Ladislava, Lysithea also defected, having never truly believed in Edelgard’s cause.

Afterward, Lyraa and Ferdinand returned to the Silver Cap Forest. There, Ferdinand confessed his love for her. He admitted he had been maintaining the forest in her memory. Lyraa, still burdened by past wounds and betrayals, admitted she was not ready to accept it, but asked him to wait patiently for her to which he agreed.

Now the Resistance Armies leading expert on dark magic, Lysithea examined Lyraa’s nerve damage and concluded that she will never be cured, and that this would be something she would need to learn to accept as a permanent part of her.

The year turned 1186, and not long after the new year celebrations, Lyraa learned that Cygnus had been sighted in Danu. Accompanied by Byleth, Ferdinand, and the others, she returned home. There, they confronted Cygnus and Deneb, who had uncovered the secrets of water magic. Defeating Cygnus allowed Lyraa closure, and she was gifted the Staff of Rán by Aquila who had returned as well. Aquila reclaimed leadership of Danu and he finally opened up to outsiders. Eridanus returned to Danu and began rebuilding trust with the towns people.

When the Resistance returned to Garreg Mach, they received grim news: Dimitri had fallen at Gronder Field, and Claude had vanished. With the Empire weakened, plans were made to strike The Impregnable Fortress. Before that assault, however, Ferdinand learned that his father had escaped confinement and had fled to Hrym. He, Lyraa, Lysithea, and their allies traveled there, quelling unrest and ultimately discovering Ludwig’s corpse. Lyraa stayed by Ferdinand’s side, offering comfort. Finally, Lyraa felt she could trust Ferdinand once again.

The assault on the Impregnable Fortress followed. There, they faced Caspar and the Dark Knight. This time, Lyraa and Ferdinand stood together, strong enough to challenge him, forcing him to retreat. The fortress itself was destroyed by the Pillars of Light.

Undeterred, the Resistance devised a plan to infiltrate Enbarr by feigning surrender. Inside the Imperial capital, they clashed with Hubert and the Death Knight. Fighting side by side, Lyraa and Ferdinand finally defeated the Death Knight.

The Resistance army pressed forward into the Imperial Palace where they fought with Edelgard and Petra, who was now a prisoner of war, held captive by Edelgard. The Resistance army overthrew Edelgard, who was ultimately slain by Byleth. Yet even then, the war was not truly over. A letter left behind by Hubert revealed the existence of Those Who Slither in the Dark: the true enemy lurking behind the conflict. The Resistance freed Rhea and Petra before preparing for one final campaign.

After a brief respite, they journeyed to Hrym once more, uncovering Shambhala and confronting and defeating Thales. Upon the return to Garreg Mach, Rhea, weakened and unstable, transformed into The Immaculate One. In the final battle, Lyraa, Ferdinand, and their allies faced her draconic form and together, they brought her down, granting her rest.

After the War

Shortly after the war in 1186, Ferdinand proposed to Lyraa on her birthday in the Silver Cap Forest, revealing that he had purchased the land as a gift for their future. In time, the two built a cottage there and established the Silver Cap Nature Reserve, where Lyraa fulfilled a long-held dream of opening her own honeybee farm. The two married shortly thereafter.

Ferdinand had assumed his role as Duke Aegir, dedicating himself to restoring both Aegir and Hrym territories. Alongside this, Agarthan technology was carefully studied and repurposed to support the newly formed United Kingdom of Fódlan.

During the restoration of Hrym, Ferdinand discovered a pair of young twins and brought them back to the reserve, much to Lyraa’s initial dismay. Despite her reluctance, she gradually warmed to them. They were named Nichessa and Ophiuchus, or, Nixie and Ophi for short.

The twins struggled to adjust at first, and Lyraa found caring for them overwhelming. At times, she would send them away with Ferdinand during his frequent work journeys between Aegir and Hrym. But as the months passed, things began to settle. The twins developed a natural curiosity for the world around them, and through that shared interest, Lyraa slowly formed a bond with them. She taught them to respect nature and care for animals, and they soon became eager helpers around the reserve.

With support from Byleth, Ferdinand established a public school to provide children with access to education. Nixie and Ophi were among its first students. Twice a year, Lyraa would also host seminars there, teaching the importance of preserving nature and living in harmony with it.

As they grew older, the twins were enrolled at Garreg Mach Academy, which had since shifted its focus toward academic studies such as writing, mathematics, and magical practice. Though Lyraa would never openly admit it, she deeply missed the antics they brought to the reserve.

In the years that followed, Lyraa continued to care for the Silver Cap Nature Reserve and her honey farm, while Ferdinand fulfilled his duties as Duke, always returning home as often as he could to the quiet life they had built together.

Lyraa’s story is not complete. One day, I may expand on her married life with Ferdinand, along side Nixie and Ophi and any secrets they may share. But for now, this is as far as I’m taking this story.

Thank you tremendously to my friend who helped me write this, you know who you are <3
